encounter A series of photographs, hand printing on barite paper 30x30 cm, 40x30 cm, 10x15 cm 2024
In this series the point of my interest was men's sensitivity. I was interested in capturing the subtle experiences, feelings that in traditional society are hidden by men. That's why the natural landscape became a meeting place of human (men) with non-human natural agents. The participant is proposed a sequence of somatic tasks through which they interact with a chosen agent.
After a 10-20 minute walk through a natural area, the participant is encouraged to find a place they like and stay to explore it. They were guided by me through the score:
Find something that touches, attracts attention, resonates with internal sensations and identify 5 characteristics of the object (smell, sound, shape, texture, color, way of moving, etc.)
Choose one of the most striking characteristics - it is a bridge over which the bodies of the agents can meet.
Try to hear what message the agent is telling you personally through this characteristic.
Reply to the agent, using your own body.
Build a dialog
Finally say goodbye.
I participate in this process as an active spectator. I am angles, coming closer or farther away, trying to figure out with whom this dialog is being constructed and what it is about, documenting this process. The participant has no right or wrong to follow instructions, but is tasked not to pose, but to engage deeply in the dialog, allowing my presence as an observer. My gaze is the gaze of a bird watcher or the gaze of a hiker. Encompassing the whole landscape. I try to see my characters outside the social context, rather see the creature as part of the environment.
